What do you do?
I am the director of the radiology department at the new Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio hospital. Radiology is the hub of any modern hospital because it serves all departments. Here, we perform any radiological investigation using the most modern and efficient equipment available on the market. We are also involved in scientific research in the radiology of every human body system, focusing on the locomotor system.
What are the goals of your commitment?
On the one hand, clinical activity is addressed to patient care. My collaborators and I focus on a holistic approach to patients’ needs, including providing excellent diagnostic answers and the utmost commitment to hospitality, empathy, and respect for every individual and their condition. On the other hand, scientific research is a way to produce new knowledge that, in the long term, is used to better the treatment of our patients.

What role does innovation play in your job?
Radiology is one of the most innovative branches of medicine, having revolutionised every approach to medical diagnostics since its inception in 1895. At our hospital, innovation is at the heart not only of the development of the radiology department, with its state-of-the-art machines, but also of research activities, including the development of brand-new artificial intelligence algorithms for medical imaging to improve diagnostic capabilities.
What added value have you received or would you like to receive from your presence in MIND?
MIND’s challenge is to concentrate a multitude of innovative activities in one single area, from technology companies to research in a broad range of fields to the most advanced healthcare. For me, this is the added value of MIND, as it is only from the synergy of different backgrounds that the most unexpected and innovative projects can arise.
How do you imagine the future of MIND?
I envision a space for the most technologically innovative activities, where there is the opportunity to combine the best quality of work and life for the people who will access it. In addition to innovative workspaces, I envision a surrounding area where everyone can enjoy high-quality, sustainable services. I imagine a science-technology park, well integrated into the city’s social fabric, that will also bring well being to all the inhabitants of Milan and neighbouring municipalities.
